Faith Korpe K.G.: Dept. Minister Pleads With Queen Mother To Fund Maintainance Work.

The deputy minister for energy, Hon. William Owuraku Aidoo, has pleaded with the Queen Mother and the people of Faith Korpe, a farming community in the Ga East district of the greater Accra region, to set aside a portion of the proceeds from the sale of lands in the area for the maintenance of a newly constructed kindergarten school block.

The Afigya Kwabre South member of parliament, who graced the commissioning of a kindergarten school block constructed by Valco Trust Fund as part of its zero schools under trees project, called on members of the community to own the facility and ensure its proper maintenance.

Speaking to Real Estate Times Africa on how the two-unit classroom block would be maintained to last for its intended purpose, Hon. Owuraku Aidoo disclosed that he had pleaded with the queen mother of the area to help fund the cost of maintaining the school.

‘’I actually asked the queen mother; do you sell lands here? she said yes, so, I said please, if you sell a piece of land, just put a little bit aside for the maintenance of facilities like this, and she agreed. She said that this is a good idea. Going forward, communities must take charge of facilities entrusted to them. It is incumbent on the part of the community to make sure that this property is properly maintained to last for today and tomorrow."

The facility, the first to be commissioned out of the eighteen schools constructed by the Valco Trust Fund in three months under their "zero school under trees project", has two classrooms, a canteen, an office, and washrooms for both teachers and pupils, with a spacious playground.

On his part, the Ag. Executive Director of Valco Trust Fund, Kelvin Kweku Yeboah, said the initiative is in line with President Nana Akufo Addo’s vision of providing quality basic education to the people of Ghana, particularly those in less endowed communities.
