Discrimination in concession allocation- Ghana Timber Association.

The Ghana Timber Association has expressed worry about the discrimination in the allocation concessions to the detriment of the timber market.

Non-timber merchants such as chainsaw operators and other individuals unrecognized by the Ghana Timber Association are benefiting from the discrimination associated with the allocation of concessions.

In an interview with Real Estate Times Africa, the President of Ghana Timber Association, Mr. Alex Dadzie averred that the timber industry is currently facing numerous challenges of which the allocation of concession to non-timber merchants is major.

Taking a swipe at the late Chief Executive Officer of Forestry Commission, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, Mr. Dadzie said, there was total disrespect to the laws that govern the sector especially on the allocation of concession, under his regime, Mr. Dadzie alleges that the former CEO unlawfully allocated concessions to non-timber merchants at the expense of genuine ones.

Concession is given to concessionaires for a period of forty and twenty-five years respectively which grants them the legal backing to enter and operate each year for guaranteed preservation of timber.
