Portland Monitoring Committee Tasked To Enforce Local Production Of Portland Cement

The newly constituted Portland Cement Monitoring Committee was tasked to promote the production of more locally produced Portland Cement in the country. The committee will work in line with provision in LI 2240.

Earlier this month, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon Nana Ama Dokuaa Asiamah-Adjei, sworn in the new reconstituted Portland Cement Monitoring Committee and charged them to patronize the production of portland cement locally.

The deputy minister referred them to section 4 of the LI 2240, which states that the “Committee is expected to, among others, advice the minister on matters in relation to the importation of portland cement in the country.”

Section 4 also mandates the committee to make recommendations to the minister on the pricing, and quantities of portland cement to be imposed for commercial purposes as well as on local production of portland cement.

Hon Nana Ama Dokuaa appealed to the members of the Committee to be mindful of the sensitivity of the product even as they make their decisions.

She promised them her utmost cooperation and that of the ministry to ensure that the committee is able to deliver on its mandate.

The Committee is chaired by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Mr. Patrick Yaw Nimo.
