The importance of the Culinary and Décor industry has been underscored at the just held 42nd graduation ceremony at EKGS Culinary Institute – trainers in Floral Decor, Cake Making & Sugar Craft, Pastry & Cookery Art and other international courses

The event held on sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Accra International Conference Centre saw dozens of patrons including dignitaries grace the occasion to outdoor 120 graduates who have toiled for six months to successfully complete their various courses of choice.

Speaking on the theme ‘Battling the Impact of Covid-19, The Role of the Culinary Industry’, the Founder and Director of EKGS Culinary Institute Mrs.  Efua Otua Goode Obeng Kyei urged parents and guardians to enroll their wards in economically viable skills such as those offered by her institution to always make them efficient, regardless of the times.

“We all witnessed the true value of caterers and all professionals in the food value chain during the lockdown period when they were classified as ‘essential workers’. Engage your wards in the culinary industry. A word to the wise is certainly enough”, she persuaded.

The Guest Speaker for the occasion, Mrs. Maria Lovelace Johnson who is the Head of Food Enforcement Department at the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) noted that though the future looked bright and exciting for the graduating class, there would also be trying moments and challenges which they must overcome to become successful.

She added that, as the graduates have taken a major step in their lives to become successful for the betterment of their families and communities; they also ought to pass on their skills to other generations to build a more promising future for the culinary industry.

“You worked hard spending months learning new skills. Our complex and technical world today requires education and skills that were not needed in the past. A well-educated generation will benefit us well in the future”, she noted

EKGS Culinary Institute offers a 4 - 5 months program which encompasses balloon, ribbon and floral decoration. The programme equips the beginner student to become a master professional decorator; as emphasis is placed on event decor ranging from social to corporate events. Students are taught the business practice of providing decorating solutions across-board, including the master floral programme, which has attained recognition nationwide and internationally, as graduates exhibit impressive decorating skills.

Entertainment and good music at the graduation was given by the popular choral music choir El Dunamis Minstrel.
