Asenso Boakye Calls For A Coherent And Integrated National Urban And Housing Policies

At the invitation of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Government of South Africa, the sector Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye led a Ghanaian delegation to Pretoria, South Africa for a high-level meeting to launch the “Global Action Plan Framework on Informal Settlements and Slums”.

The high-level meeting brought together Ministers, Government officials, as well as Civil Societies who continue to play active roles in upgrading and transforming informal settlements.

The Hon. Minister used the occasion to reiterate the urgent need for a coherent and integrated national urban and housing policies, which prioritizes the implementation of national developmental plans, policies, and result-oriented programmes and projects for slums.

With Ghana having already taken bold the step in the development of a draft Slum Upgrading and Prevention Strategy, the emergence of this Global Action Plan will help shape the country's strategy for effective implementation.
