Ghana Statistical Service Launched Household and Income Expenditure Survey

Ghana Statistical Service Launched Household and Income Expenditure Survey

First Annual Household and Income Expenditure Survey (AHIES) launched today, 23rd December 2021 by the Ghana Statistical Service is expected to commence in 2022.

The survey's main objective is to obtain data to estimate quarterly and annual household final consumption expenditure to support the compilation of quarterly and annual GDP by the expenditure approach.

Some microeconomic indicators to be generated from the AHIES include quarterly GDP, regional GDP, quarterly unemployment rate, underemployment, inequality, growth elasticity of property, consumption expenditure poverty, and multidimensional poverty.

The data is also projected to indicate how much affordable housing the Ghanaian average earner can afford in the market and what form of assistance is needed from the government to narrow the housing deficit in the country.

The AHIES will cushion the findings of the Ghana Living Standards Survey which provides a wealth of information for understanding living conditions and monitoring the welfare system in Ghana.

Ghana Living Standard Survey is a household based survey which focuses on key socio-economic characteristics and well-being of households in the country.

Over the past 30 years, Ghana has conducted a series of living standard surveys, and this will also add more depth to the Ghana Living Standards Survey reports.

The survey is intended to guide policy review and programme planning to engender national development going forward.
