Ridge Hospital, Accra - Ghana

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated that
Agenda 111 which would see to the construction of 100-bed hospitals in 111 districts with no hospitals, and 7 Regional hospitals in the seven nearly created regions is on course to deliver the best healthcare ever for the Ghanaian people.

He disclosed that the project also, would make Ghana a medical tourist attraction when completed.

“Agenda 111, the largest ever investment in healthcare infrastructure in our history is part of a massive vision for Ghana’s health care sector, the realisation of which will lead to Ghana becoming a centre of medical excellence and a destination for medical tourism.

The President made the prediction recently while delivering his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 to the Parliament of Ghana. He explained further what the medical tourist attraction of Ghana would entail, saying that each of the 16 regional hospitals would be designated for specialised services.

“It [Agenda 111] will also see us achieve the following. Each of the 16 regional hospitals will be designated as centres of excellence in the different specialisations of medicine. For example, orthopaedic surgery, burns, plastic and reconstructive surgery, breast care centre, paternity centre, neonatology and paediatric centre, neurosurgery and spine centre, stroke centre, heart and kidney centre and mental health centre to name a few”, Nana Addo said.

He continued that “secondly, continuously upgrade our medical curriculum. We continue to train our young doctors and healthcare professionals in a world class fashion. Three, incentivise the private sector to increase capacity to support demand in the healthcare delivery. And four, encourage Ghanaian health professionals in the diaspora to collaborate and join hands with us to help build and contribute to the realisation of this noble vision. The West African Region is estimated to reach a population of half a billion by 2020, by which time this vision would have been realised”\.”

According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his Government would continue to invest in the health sector by recruiting more health professionals with over 100,000 recruited in his first term of office.

Also, electronic medical record system and E-health deployment was also currently underway, following its implementation in E-health facilities such as Korle-Bu, Komfo Anokye, Ho, Tamale and Cape Cost Teaching hospitals; and several district hospitals in the  Central Region.

The Upper East, Upper West, and Bono Regional Hospitals will go live on the E-health platform [website] in 5 days”, the President promised.
