55M Hospitality Sector Grant To Be Disbursed This Week – Tourism Minister

Following agitations by some stakeholders in the hospitality industry over the delay in disbursing the World Bank’s hospitality grant to the sector, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr Mohammed Amin Awal, has revealed the government’s intentions to begin the disbursement of a $55 million grant this week.

The grand, which is intended to help revive the country’s tourism industry, which has been badly affected by the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic, was released by the World Bank about two months ago.

According to the tourism minister, applicants who have gone through all the processes will soon start receiving their share. "In the last two months people have applied; thousands of them. So, the team has gone through the processes, sieved them and beginning Thursday or Friday this week we will start disbursing the money according to the procedure. Hopefully, this will not only help people to come back from the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will also make sure that they strengthen their SMEs, improve their governance and improve their sites". The minister said.

The revival of the sector, which has been struggling to regain its feet from the impact of the pandemic, will bring employment hope to thousands of Ghanaian youth who depend on it.
