President Akufo Addo Commissions Two Projects at the Ghana Police Hospital

President Nana Dankwa Akufo Addo on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, commissioned a newly constructed Out-Patient-Department (OPD) and a Virtual Medical Center at the Ghana Police Hospital in Accra.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the president commended the police administration and the management of the police hospital for working to expand the frontiers of the facility, noting that the wealth of the nation depends on the health of its people.

"Police personnel, irrespective of their locations, can all access healthcare service from the hospital anywhere in the country at any time. Officers of the service are guaranteed a protected platform and a seamless consultation with the doctor, " Akufo Addo said.

President Akufo Addo assured that beneficiaries will not have to go through the what he described as the “usual bureaucracies and the associated delays" that have, in the past, resulted, in some cases, in personnel losing their lives whilst awaiting treatment, and the deterioration of medical conditions of some others.

"Beginning with virtual OPD attendance, through diagnoses, laboratory referrals, prescription of drugs, and subsequent reviews, all of these medical processes can be done without one having to travel from his or her station. Indeed, if the medical situation of a patient demands a higher level of attention, the medical doctor would immediately make the necessary arrangements for the patient to be evacuated to the nearest medical facility for treatment, "the President added.

The president said the Virtual Medical Centre is the first of its kind in the public sector, and is, indeed, worthy of emulation. It could not have come at a better time than now as the battle against the scourge of COVID-19, which has, to a significant extent, limited person-to-person contact.

The president further used the opportunity to launch a GHC6.1 million emergency medical intervention fund for the Ghana police service. The fund is to serve as a supplement to providing immediate financial assistance for the medical treatment of police officers, who get injured in the course of duty.
