An urgent move by the government in response to the biting accommodation problems of tertiary institutions in Ghana will see the beginning of the construction of 45 new hostel facilities for all but one college of education in the country.
Dr. Ahmed Jinapor, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), facilitators of the project, who revealed this to Real Estate Times Africa, said that all is set for the commencement project in March.
This follows several complaints of accommodation-related problems tabled by the principals of colleges of education at the National Consultative Forum on the Development of Infrastructure in Tertiary Institutions held in Kumasi last year.
The three-storey high, hostel facility, designed to house about five hundred students on each of the campuses of the 45 beneficiary schools, is expected to be completed in twelve months, all at a cost of GHC 45 million.
Dr. Ahmed Jinapor further disclosed plans by the government to procure 23 Land Cruiser vehicles to enhance the mobility of some selected colleges of education.
