Complete projects or forget Sir John’s funeral: Nana Addo told to decide

Complete projects or forget Sir John’s funeral: Nana Addo told to decide

Sakora Wonoo is a Kente weaving urban area in the Kwabre East District of Ashanti, noted for its Kente weaving alongside Bonwire and Adanwomase.

The traditional authorities and entire residence have bemoaned on neglected development projects in the community since the demise of their beloved Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (popularly known as Sir John)

Sir John was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. He held several political positions including serving as general secretary of the New Patriotic Party. He was serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Forestry Commission of Ghana before his demise on 1 July 2020 in Accra after testing positive for COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.

Sakora Wonoo is the hometown of Sir John and he was proud of coming from the community. Before his painful demise, he started key developmental projects in the community which some have been stalled after his demised.

The Queen-mother of Sakora Wonoo, Nana Ama Nyarko speaking with Real Estate Times Africa cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo not to step foot in the township for Sir John’s burial if the abandoned projects he started are not completed to serve inhabitants.

According to her, NPP leadership has been ungrateful to appreciate the selfless efforts of the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie to the party. She advised that if their deserted road, hospital, water projects and school blocks which Sir John started are not finalized, residents will make sure the President and his Vice, together with party executives do not step foot for the funeral rites of their beloved son.

“So, if Sir John is no more, what can the NPP remember his good works with? Almost a year after his demise, there is not a single monument done at Sakora Wonoo in remembrance of him. Is the government not ashamed of this?” she enquired.

According to her, People of Sakora Wonoo are disheartened because Sir John’s hard works seem to have been a waste in the country and Ghana at large.

“We have been deprived of infrastructural development in the Kwabre East Municipal after the great support we rallied behind the NPP in the 2020 elections. Our road is in deplorable states and every project for the welfare of this township has been left unattended.” Nana Ama Nyarko disclosed.
